Feeding your rabbit the right way is key to keeping them healthy and happy. Rabbits have sensitive digestive systems and specific nutritional needs that must be met every day. A balanced diet helps prevent common health problems and supports strong teeth and good energy levels.
1. Unlimited Hay is the Foundation
Fresh hay should always be available to your rabbit. It provides essential fiber for digestion and helps wear down their continuously growing teeth. Timothy hay is a popular choice, but orchard grass and meadow hay also work well. Make sure the hay is fresh, clean, and dry.
2. Provide Fresh Vegetables Daily
In addition to hay, rabbits need a variety of fresh vegetables every day. Leafy greens like romaine lettuce, kale, and cilantro are excellent options. Introduce new veggies gradually and remove any uneaten portions within a few hours to keep food fresh.
3. Feed Quality Rabbit Pellets
Pellets made specifically for rabbits should be part of their diet but in limited amounts. Choose pellets high in fiber and without added seeds or dried fruits. Follow the feeding guidelines based on your rabbit's size and age.

6. Limit Fruits and Treats
Fruits are high in sugar and should only be given as occasional treats. Safe options include small pieces of apple, berries, or banana. Treats should not replace the main diet of hay and vegetables.
